09/26/2015 09:59

Plumbing is a complex job thus; it should only be done by an expert. However, even if you are not competent in this area, there are a few things you can do to ensure that the lives of the members of your family are not in danger as a result of a plumbing problem that may arise in the middle of the night.  This article looks at the plumbing basics that are considered important.

Systems

First it is important to ensure that your home’s drainage and supply systems are distinct. There should be no overlapping between the two.  Second, there are plumbing basics that your technician must adhere to when carrying out plumbing in the home.  He must factor in gravity, pressure and the fact that water finds its level.

The plumbing system in the home consists of two separate subsystems. The one that brings in freshwater and the one that takes out waste water. When water comes into your home, it has enough pressure and hence can easily travel upstairs and around the corners of your house. Ensure that water flowing out of the house has enough pressure to push it into the drainage.

Water Shut Offs

Find where water shutoffs or valve are located. The valve is important and can make a difference and prevent a catastrophe in the event of an accident such as a burst or damaged valve.  Knowing where it is located and how to shut it is the first thing you should do on the first day you get into the house.

The plumbing system must be checked and repaired regularly. This can help you identify areas that can lead to accident and devise strategies that can help you prevent accidents.

Bathroom Maintenance

Checking and ensuring that the drain is working as it should is important. Ensure that you run hot water down the drain at least once per week. This ensures that the drain keeps on flowing. Any leaky faucet must be repaired to avoid damage to the fixtures and the faucets. All the tubs and showers should be fitted with strainers that can catch hair and soap chips to avoid clogging your system.

Basement Plumbing

To keep the basement running efficiently, it may be necessary that you perform the following activities:
•    Find a way of preventing sewer gasses from backing up into your house through the basement floor.
•    Install shock absorbers that absorb vibrations in water lines
